The PX-Q500 FLASHpistol™ Optical Leak Detection Set (OLDS) from Photonix Technologies is the most unique fiber optic diagnostic tool available. By simply sweeping over a fiber, the leak detection probe will give an audio and visual indication whenever it encounters a light loss point. Often performing the same function as a visible laser source, it's designed for use in OTDR dead zone areas or splice enclosures where exact pinpointing of faults is critical. The major advantage over a visible laser, however, is that the FLASHpistol can "see" faults in bright room light through all coded fiber colors in fusion or mechanical splices. Use this tool to detect connector endface splatter. It provides connector panel port identification for long and short distances. You can even identify breaks in black buffered fiber and covered by connector boots.
The PX-Q504 kit also contains a PX-C304 Techlite™ full-featured 1550-nm remote laser light source. When used together, the FLASHpistol can identify fibers at more than 300 kilometers, not just a few miles. Find light reflected from connectors in bulkhead adapters and even through many dust covers. Use this combination to find faults to within inches of a break. Also locate inefficient bulkheads, unmated connectors, bad splices and more.
